Platforms update their recommendations, so check the site you're uploading to. If your image has a different shape than the size you need, resizing with the aspect ratio locked won't match both numbers exactly. Unlocking it will stretch the image, so it's usually better to crop it to the right shape first.
Resizing vs compressing
Resizing changes an image's dimensions — how many pixels wide and tall it is. Compressing keeps the dimensions and reduces the file size by storing the image more efficiently. Making an image smaller in pixels often makes the file smaller too, but not always. If you only need a smaller file, try the Image Compressor.
Shrinking an image keeps it sharp. Enlarging it can't add detail that wasn't captured, so large increases can look soft.
Frequently asked questions
Is this image resizer free?
Yes. Pixyro's image resizer is free, with no sign-up, no watermarks and no limit on how many images you resize.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. Your image is resized by your own browser, on your device. It is never uploaded to Pixyro or anyone else.
How do I resize an image without stretching it?
Keep "Lock aspect ratio" turned on. When you change the width, the height is calculated for you (and the other way round), so the image keeps its original proportions. Resizing by percentage always keeps the proportions.
Will resizing reduce the file size?
Making an image smaller usually reduces its file size, but the exact result depends on the image and its format. If you need a smaller file without changing the dimensions, use the Image Compressor instead.
Can I make an image bigger?
Yes. Enter larger dimensions or a percentage above 100%. Enlarging can't add detail that isn't in the original, so a greatly enlarged image may look soft or blurry.
What format is the resized image saved in?
The same format as your original: JPG stays JPG, PNG stays PNG and WebP stays WebP. Safari can't create WebP files, so in Safari a resized WebP image is saved as JPG.
What is the largest size I can resize to?
Up to 16,384 pixels on each side and 100 megapixels in total. You can upload images up to 50 MB. Very large images need a lot of memory, so some phones and older devices may not be able to process the largest sizes.
